2nd/4th – opening lead against a suit contract.
3rd/5th – opening lead in partner's suit (5+ cards / a lead-directing double), but only when we have not raised it. After the opening lead we are back to 2nd/4th or "straight", depending on the contract and the situation
"straight" – opening lead against NT.
During the play:
- 2nd/4th – regardless of the contract
- When we return a suit through small cards in dummy, or through an unsupported top honour, we return "straight" in every situation
- When we lead the K against a suit contract and dummy has 3 small cards or Axx, we signal attitude (upside-down)
- When we cash the A in partner's suit (one shown with 5+ cards / by a double = I want this lead) against a suit contract, we signal Lavinthal (suit preference). Again, this applies only when we have not explicitly raised it.
- When we lead the A and a stopper is visible, and there is no prospect of a ruff, we also signal Lavinthal (suit preference).
